AKP Chongqing, September 22, 2026 -- Cambodia sees opportunities to strengthen trade and investment cooperation with Chongqing, China, by making greater use of cooperation mechanisms under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and enhancing connectivity with inland Chinese markets.

Speaking to the Agence Kampuchea Presse (AKP) on the occasion of the official launch of a media promotional campaign in Chongqing on Sept. 20, Cambodian Consul-General in Chongqing Mr. Van Vithyea said Cambodia could promote Chongqing’s market and investment opportunities to Cambodian chambers of commerce and business associations.

He highlighted the importance of organising reciprocal business delegations and trade missions, as well as facilitating direct connections between Cambodian and Chinese enterprises through trade fairs and exhibitions to expand business matchmaking and investment opportunities.

Mr. Van Vithyea also pointed to the New Western Land-Sea Corridor, which connects China with ASEAN through Chongqing, as an important transport link that could facilitate the movement of goods, reduce logistics costs and improve access for Cambodian products to inland Chinese markets.

At the same time, Cambodia could encourage investors from Chongqing to explore investment opportunities in Cambodia, using BRI cooperation mechanisms as a foundation for policy support and business cooperation.

Mr. Van Vithyea added that Cambodia could seek greater access for agricultural products and other goods to Chongqing and southwestern China, while the city’s development as an international consumption centre could open additional opportunities in tourism, restaurants, cross-border e-commerce and product exhibitions.

These initiatives, he said, could help promote Cambodian products and brands in China and create new opportunities for exports, investment and business partnerships between the two countries.
