Cambodia and Myanmar have reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening cooperation at bilateral, regional and global levels during talks between Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet and Myanmar President H.E. U Min Aung Hlaing in Phnom Penh on Friday afternoon.

The bilateral meeting was held at the Peace Palace during H.E. U Min Aung Hlaing’s two-day State Visit to Cambodia from Sept. 11 to 12, at the invitation of His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia.

During the meeting, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet warmly welcomed the Myanmar President and his high-level delegation, saying the visit reflected the continued strengthening of the longstanding bonds of friendship, relations and cooperation between the two countries.

In response, H.E. U Min Aung Hlaing expressed his deep appreciation to the Royal Government and people of Cambodia, as well as the Cambodian Prime Minister, for the warm, close and fraternal hospitality extended to him and his delegation.

The Myanmar President also highly valued Cambodia’s rapid development and modernisation, noting that his first State Visit to Cambodia as President had enabled him to clearly see the country’s transformation compared with his previous visit in 2017.

H.E. U Min Aung Hlaing described Cambodia as a good and close friend that has consistently supported Myanmar in ASEAN and international frameworks, particularly during Cambodia’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2022.

The two leaders exchanged views on ways to promote and strengthen bilateral cooperation in priority areas, including the economy, trade and investment, tourism, security and defence, education and human resource training, religious affairs, and combating technology-related scams.

They also discussed strengthening mutual support and cooperation within regional and international frameworks, while reaffirming their shared commitment to enhancing collaboration between Cambodia, Myanmar and the region in combating transnational crimes.

In particular, the two sides agreed to step up cooperation against human trafficking, drug trafficking and cybercrime.

Following the bilateral meeting, the two leaders witnessed the signing ceremony of four cooperation documents covering the elimination of double taxation and prevention of tax evasion and avoidance, reciprocal promotion and protection of investments, cultural cooperation, and media and information cooperation.
