AKP Phnom Penh, September 8, 2026 -- Cambodia's diplomat to Romania has held working talks with the President of the Bucharest Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIB) on Sept. 7 to explore ways to deepen economic, trade, and investment ties, with a particular focus on establishing direct business linkages and opening new European distribution channels for Cambodian products.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary H.E. Dr. Chea Chanboribo met with CCIB President Mr. Iuliu Stocklosa, with Honorary Consul of Cambodia to Romania Mr. Mihai Andritoiu also in attendance. The meeting centred on translating the long-standing traditional friendship between Cambodia and Romania into tangible commercial cooperation that delivers concrete benefits for both nations.

A central priority of the discussions was the feasibility of establishing a supply, import, warehousing, and distribution network in Romania to serve Cambodian nationals living, studying, and working across Europe.

The initiative aims to make Cambodian food and consumer staples more accessible to the diaspora while tapping into growing European demand for Asian agricultural products. Key potential exports include rice, Kampot pepper, cashew nuts, dried fruits, processed agricultural items, spices, sauces, noodles, and traditional Khmer condiments.

Collaboration with CCIB and local business networks will help connect Cambodian producers and exporters directly with European importers, logistics providers, distributors, and retail channels—paving the way for a stable, long-term Cambodia-Europe supply chain while raising the profile of the "Made in Cambodia" brand internationally.

Ambassador Dr. Chea Chanboribo highlighted Cambodia’s potential as a gateway for Romanian businesses seeking access to the broader ASEAN market, while emphasising Romania’s strategic position as an EU member state that can connect Cambodian enterprises to wider European networks.

Both sides identified several target sectors for economic cooperation, including agriculture and food processing, trade, tourism, technology, manufacturing, energy, transport, and vocational education.

To move these concepts toward practical implementation, Ambassador Dr. Chanboribo encouraged CCIB to share insights on Cambodia’s business environment with its members and foster direct Business-to-Business (B2B) matchmaking and delegation exchanges. Honorary Consul Mihai Andritoiu will play a key facilitating role in bridging the embassy with the local business community.

The meeting underscores Cambodia's active economic diplomacy strategy – aimed not only at attracting foreign investment, but also at securing new export markets, establishing European distribution hubs, and delivering measurable economic results through expanded market access.
