Guangzhou City of Guangdong Province, the People’s Republic of China, hosted the Asia-Pacific Media Forum Guangzhou Sub-Forum today, bringing together media professionals, experts and scholars from across the Asia-Pacific region.

The event was jointly organised by the Publicity Department of the CPC Guangzhou Municipal Committee and the Guangzhou Bureau of Xinhua News Agency.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Ms. Tan Jing, Head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Guangzhou Municipal Committee, underlined the important role of the media in promoting exchanges, enhancing mutual understanding and fostering cooperation among countries and peoples in the Asia-Pacific region.

The forum served as a platform for media professionals, experts and scholars to exchange views and share experiences on the development and future direction of the media industry in the Asia-Pacific region.

The event featured a series of panel discussions focusing on the development and transformation of media in the new era, particularly the growing role and impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology on journalism, news production, information dissemination and public communication.

Participants shared experiences and perspectives on the opportunities and challenges arising from rapid technological advancement, while emphasising the importance of strengthening cooperation, innovation and professional exchanges among media institutions in the region.

A Cambodian delegation also participated in the forum, comprising representatives from the Ministry of Information, led by H.E. Prak Thaveak Amida, Under-Secretary of State, as well as representatives of private media institutions and scholars from the Royal Academy of Cambodia.

The participation of the Cambodian delegation reflects Cambodia’s active engagement in regional media exchanges and provides an opportunity to further strengthen cooperation, professional networks and mutual understanding between Cambodian media institutions and their regional counterparts.

The Asia-Pacific Media Forum Guangzhou Sub-Forum forms part of the 2026 Asia-Pacific Media Forum, which is scheduled to take place on Sept. 5 in Shenzhen, China.

Heads of media outlets and think tanks, along with representatives from universities and government departments from countries across the Asia-Pacific region, are expected to attend the main forum.
