Cambodia, Thailand Hold Border Talks to Advance Peace Agreements and Local Coordination
AKP Phnom Penh, April 23, 2026 -- Cambodian and Thai military officials held an informal meeting of the Secretariat of the Cambodia-Thailand Regional Border Committee (RBC) on Thursday to discuss the implementation of existing border peace agreements and strengthen local coordination.
According to H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, Spokesperson for Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence, the meeting took place at 11:00 a.m. at the Choam-Sa Ngam International Border Checkpoint in Anlong Veng district, Oddar Meanchey province.
The Cambodian delegation was led by Brigadier General Nith Narong, head of the Cambodian RBC Secretariat, while the Thai side was headed by Major General Kampanat Waphansu, chief of the Thai RBC Secretariat.
During the talks, both sides discussed ways to continue the full and effective implementation of the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC), signed on Dec. 27, 2025.
The discussions also focused on improving informal operational coordination and streamlining local conflict resolution mechanisms between Cambodia’s Military Region 4 and Thailand’s Army Area 2 through the RBC secretariats.
Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence reaffirmed its firm and sincere commitment to fully respecting and implementing all relevant bilateral agreements, including the Dec. 27, 2025 Joint Statement and the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement signed on Oct. 26, 2025.
The Ministry said Cambodia remains committed to pursuing a peaceful, just, and lasting solution in accordance with international law and existing treaties between the two neighbouring countries.
