Phnom Penh Hosts First Meeting of the "2+2" Strategic Dialogue between Foreign Ministers and National Defence Ministers of Cambodia and China
AKP Phnom Penh, April 21, 2026 -- The First Meeting of the "2+2" Strategic Dialogue Mechanism between the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Ministers of National Defence of the Kingdom of Cambodia and the People's Republic of China, will be held on April 22 in Phnom Penh.
The information was shared by the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in a press release issued this afternoon.
H.E. Deputy Prime Minister PRAK Sokhonn, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and H.E. Deputy Prime Minister TEA Seiha, Minister of National Defence of the Kingdom of Cambodia, will co-chair the meeting with H.E. WANG Yi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and H.E. DONG Jun, Minister of National Defence of the People's Republic of China.
Cambodia and China agreed to establish this dialogue during the state visit of President Xi Jinping to Cambodia in April last year, with a view to promote high-level strategic communication, deepen mutual political and security trust and the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries. This new mechanism will serve as a key platform for exchanging views on regional and international issues of common interest.
According to the press release, during their stay in Phnom Penh, the two visiting Chinese dignitaries will also pay separate courtesy calls on Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HUN Sen, Acting Head of State and President of the Senate, and Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei HUN Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia.
Following the "2+2" Dialogue, H.E. WANG Yi will also pay an official visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia on April 23. He will hold in-depth discussions with H.E. Deputy Prime Minister PRAK Sokhonn on advancing the implementation of existing cooperation frameworks and on contributing to peace, security, stability and development within and beyond the region.
