Cambodia Thanks Partners for Ceasefire and Humanitarian Assistance
AKP Phnom Penh, August 20, 2025 --
The Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Nong Sakal, has expressed Cambodia’s sincere gratitude to partner countries and development partners for their role in achieving the ceasefire agreement and for providing timely humanitarian assistance to people affected by recent border clashes.
“I wish to express Cambodia's appreciation for the view expressed by Foreign Secretary Marco Rubio of the United States on Aug. 19 that the United States has continued to follow and monitor closely the border situation between Cambodia and Thailand,” he said a press briefing here this morning.
“In this regard, I would like to reiterate Cambodia’s high appreciation for President Donald Trump’s initiative in helping to realise the ceasefire agreement, and for the United States’ active engagement in this process,” he added.
The spokesperson further expressed Cambodia’s deep gratitude to the European Union for its announcement of a €700,000 (approximately US$816,000) emergency humanitarian contribution to assist those most affected by the recent armed clashes along the Cambodia-Thailand border.
“Cambodia values this timely assistance from the EU, which remains both an important development partner of Cambodia and a strategic partner of ASEAN,” he stressed.
In addition to the EU’s support, Cambodia has also received humanitarian assistance from China and Japan to aid people affected by the conflict along the border.
