Cambodia Updates Members of Diplomatic Corps and UN Agencies on Border Developments
AKP Phnom Penh, August 16, 2025 --
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFAIC) organised here on Aug. 15 afternoon a meeting to brief members of the Diplomatic Corps and UN agencies in Cambodia on the latest developments in the Cambodia-Thailand border situation.
The meeting, chaired by H.E. Ms. Eat Sophea, Acting Minister of MFAIC, touched the essence of the Special Meeting on the current situation between Cambodia and Thailand that reached an agreement on a ceasefire on July 28, 2025 in Putrajaya, Malaysia; and the positive outcome of the extraordinary meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) on Aug. 7, 2025 in Malaysia, according to the MFAIC.
Cambodia’s concerns over the increased risk to the fragile truce, in light of several inconducive activities, including laying barbed wire and movement of forces which harm mutual trust and contrary to the terms of the ceasefire were also raised on the occasion.
H.E. Ms. Eat Sophea totally rejected the allegation that Cambodia had laid new landmines and reaffirmed Cambodia's commitment to achieving peace and peaceful resolution to the Cambodian-Thailand border dispute.
The Acting Minister further touched on the outcome the Tea Chat Meeting participated by the Foreign Ministers of Cambodia-China-Thailand on the sidelines of the Mekong-Lancang Foreign Ministers' Meeting, held on Aug. 14, 2025 in Anning, Yunnan, China.
