Cambodia Signifies China’s Humanitarian Support for Border Demining Efforts
AKP Phnom Penh, August 15, 2025 -- Cambodia has expressed its appreciation for the People’s Republic of China’s commitment to providing various humanitarian assistance, including the support for mine clearance operations along border areas mutually agreed upon by Cambodia and Thailand.
This announcement was made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation following a bilateral meeting held on Aug. 14 between H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia, and H.E. Wang Yi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 10th Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Anning City, Yunnan Province, China.
According to the ministry’s statement, demining activities can commence immediately in border areas where boundaries have been clearly delineated by both Cambodia and Thailand.
In areas where territorial boundaries remain unresolved, the ministry emphasised the importance of fully implementing the ceasefire agreement reached during the Special Meeting on July 28 and reaffirmed at the Extraordinary Meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC) held on Aug. 7, 2025, in Malaysia.
Full adherence to the ceasefire is deemed essential to maintaining peace and stability along the border and to fostering the normalisation of bilateral relations between Cambodia and Thailand.
