IOT Delegation Inspects Sites for Future Headquarters of ASEAN Observer Team in Banteay Meanchey Province
AKP Phnom Penh, August 14, 2025 -- The ASEAN Interim Observer Team (IOT), led by Colonel Nazlee Bin Abdul Rahim, Malaysian Defence Attaché to Cambodia, inspected several locations for the future headquarters of the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) in Serei Sophorn city, Banteay Meanchey province this morning.
Under the coordination of the Ministry of National Defence, the IOT delegation, included representatives from Brunei, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, and Vietnam—both resident and non-resident—left this morning for their on-site inspection mission to assess the security situation along the border and observe the direct impacts of the Cambodia–Thailand border conflict.
After visiting Military Region 5 in Battambang province where they were briefed about the progress achieved since the ceasefire took effect, the delegation will go to Poipet International Border Checkpoint, O’ Bei Choan Border Checkpoint (Chokchey village) and Boeung Trakoun Border Checkpoint in Banteay Meanchey province: and Anseh Border Checkpoint in Preah Vihear province.
This mission stemmed from the outcome of the Special Meeting held on July 28, 2025, in Putrajaya, Malaysia, and the Extraordinary Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) concluded on Aug. 7, 2025, which reaffirmed the importance of the IOT deployment.
Cambodia reaffirmed its firm and unequivocal commitment to fully respect and strictly implement the ceasefire reached on July 28, 2025, as well as the 13-point agreed minutes adopted at the Extraordinary GBC Meeting on Aug. 7, 2025, under observation of Malaysia, the United States of America, and the People's Republic of China.
Cambodia is committed to working constructively, sincerely, and in close cooperation with Thailand, Malaysia, other ASEAN member countries, and all relevant partners such as the United States of America and the People's Republic of China to ensure the effective and full implementation of the ceasefire and to resolve all disputes peacefully and in accordance with international law, the UN Charter, and the ASEAN Charter.
