WWF-Cambodia and Partners Celebrate World Elephant Day at Srepok Wildlife Sanctuary
AKP Phnom Penh, August 13, 2025 --
WWF-Cambodia, in collaboration with the Mondulkiri Provincial Administration, the Provincial Department of Environment, and local authorities, commemorated World Elephant Day on Aug. 12, at the Srepok Wildlife Sanctuary headquarters under the theme “Together for Elephants: Protecting Cambodia’s Giants.”
The event coincided with International Youth Day, emphasising the vital role of youth in conservation and the dedication of park rangers in protecting elephant habitats.
According to WWF-Cambodia, more than 100 students and community members spent the morning learning about elephant biology, on-the-ground conservation activities and ways to prevent human-elephant conflict. A “dream map” presentation from community representatives in Koh Myeurl envisioned elephants and humans living peacefully together. A habitat walk guided by rangers also inspired students to be elephant allies by refusing wildlife and timber products unsustainably sourced from forests.
In written pledges and speeches, the next generation of conservation leaders expressed their commitment to safeguarding irreplaceable wildlife and their forest habitat.
