Senate President Closely Monitoring Border Situation
AKP Phnom Penh, August 03, 2025 -- Senate President Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen is closely monitoring the situation along the Cambodia–Thailand border following an announcement from the Ministry of National Defence regarding Thailand’s potential plans to launch new attacks on Cambodia.
In a social media post this evening, Samdech Techo Hun Sen stated that, according to a newly issued press release from the spokesperson of the Ministry of National Defence, there is a high possibility that Thai forces may launch an attack on Cambodia tonight.
“In light of this situation, I will not be able to preside over the Senate session tomorrow, Aug. 4, regardless of whether fighting breaks out or not, as I will be on standby around the clock to help command our troops,” he emphasised.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen added that the session will instead be chaired by the Senate’s First Vice President, H.E. Ouch Borith.
He also expressed his appreciation to the citizens who sent him birthday wishes in advance of his birthday on Aug. 5, 2025. However, he asked for their understanding, as he may not be able to read or respond to the messages due to his full engagement in matters of war and peace—issues he described as vital to the survival of the nation.
