NA Acting President Urges Cambodians to Join Hands to Protect Sovereignty

The National Assembly Acting President, Second Vice President and other senior members of parliament visited a refugee camp in Preah Vihear province on Thursday to offer food, water and other supplies to thousands of people displaced by the conflict with Thailand
“Cambodia is not alone,” he said. “We have foreign friends to settle the border clashes with Thailand”, H.E. Cheam Yeap told the refugees at Wat Bo Pram Poan in Kulen district.
H.E. Cheam Yeap visited the temple with Second Vice President H.E. Vong Sauth and the chairs of numerous parliamentary commissions.
The acting president recalled that the history of the ancient Khmer Empire and also referring to the subsequent Thai invasions of the empire.
Under the leadership of Preah Vihear Governor H.E. Kim Rithy, provincial authorities have evacuated an estimated 4,500 families to Wat Po 5000 amid five days of fighting between Cambodian and Thai forces that led to a ceasefire on Monday.
"The National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia would like to express its sincere thanks to His Excellency Donald Trump, President of the United States — the President for Peace — for his initiative for the ceasefire and peace between Cambodia and Thailand,” the acting president said.
"This initiative is a great achievement saving many lives,” he added.
In addition, the acting president thanked Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for brokering the ceasefire agreement at a meeting in Kuala Lumpur on Monday.
“The National Assembly would also like to thank our Chinese friends and other friendly countries for their support,” he said.
The American and Chinese ambassadors to Malaysia took part in Monday’s meeting, with the United States as co-organiser and China as an observer.
‘Priceless devotion and sacrifice’
In opening Thursday’s ceremony, members of parliament and assembled refugees stood for a minute’s silence out of respect for the dozens who have lost their lives in the conflict.
“I would like to thank soldiers and police for their priceless devotion and sacrifice,” the acting president said.
Among other senior lawmakers attending the ceremony were H.E. Chheang Vun, chairman of the National Assembly economy finance, banking and audit commission; H.E. Kep Chuktema, chairman of the interior and national defence, civil service and border affairs commission; and H.E. Suos Yara, chairman of the foreign affairs, international cooperation and media commission.
Also attending was H.E. Nin Saphon, chairwoman of the commission that oversees public works, transport, civil aviation, post, telecommunications, industry, science, technology, innovation, mines, energy, commerce, land management, urban planning and construction
