Cambodian Lawmaker Reaffirms Commitment to SDGs, Calls for Enhanced International Cooperation and Peace

Hon. Lork Kheng, Chairwoman of the National Assembly’s Commission on Public Health, Social Affairs, Veterans, Youth Rehabilitation, Labour, Vocational Training, and Women’s Affairs, reaffirmed Cambodia’s strong commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in Geneva on July 30.
Speaking at the third panel under the theme “Achieving the SDGs by 2030: What new opportunities for international cooperation?”, Hon. Lork Kheng highlighted Cambodia’s long-term vision to build a prosperous, inclusive society enriched by culture, education, and social cohesion, as outlined in the Cambodia SDGs Framework (2016–2030) and aligned with the national Cambodia 2050 Vision.
“Cambodia is fully committed to achieving the SDGs by 2030,” she said, emphasising the need for robust and sustained international cooperation, underscoring the importance of enhancing public-private-people partnerships to drive inclusive progress.
Hon. Lork Kheng stressed that peace and stability are fundamental prerequisites for development. She expressed appreciation for international efforts to promote peace in the region, particularly acknowledging the contributions of Malaysia as Chair of ASEAN, the United States, President Donald Trump, and China in facilitating the ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand.
“Thanks to these efforts, both countries can now focus on advancing sustainable development,” she noted.
Hon. Lork Kheng concluded her remarks by appealing to parliamentary leaders to uphold the UN Charter, preserve peace, and ensure accountability in fulfilling global commitments, especially those related to the SDGs.
