Cambodians Flood Social Media with Calls for Trump’s Nomination for Nobel Peace Prize after Ceasefire Role
AKP Phnom Penh, July 31, 2025 --
Cambodians have taken to social media in recent days to express their gratitude to U.S. President Donald Trump for what they view as his critical role in brokering the recent ceasefire agreement between Cambodia and Thailand, following five days of deadly skirmishes along the disputed border.
Hashtags such as #ThanksTrump, #PresidentOfPeace, and #TrumpForPeacePrize have flooded social media platforms.
Portraits of Trump—accompanied by images of the U.S. flag, the Cambodian flag, and photos of Cambodian refugees, especially children—have circulated widely, along with messages calling for his nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Many Cambodians have hailed Trump as a global peace advocate, with a growing online movement dubbing him the “President of Peace” for his perceived contribution to de-escalating regional tensions.
President Trump is said to have played a mediating role through direct contact with both leaders, urging restraint and encouraging a diplomatic resolution.
This led to the immediate and unconditional ceasefire agreement between Cambodia and Thailand, reached in Putrajaya, Malaysia, on July 28, 2025 at a Special Meeting chaired by Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, in his capacity as ASEAN Chair, and co-organised by the United States with the active participation of China, to promote a peaceful resolution to the ongoing situation.
Former Prime Minister and current Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen has lauded President Trump’s remarkable initiative, highlighting its profound impact on saving tens of thousands of lives amid the Cambodia–Thailand conflict.
