Cambodia Has No Reason to Target Its Own Tamone Temple, Says Defence Spokesperson
AKP Phnom Penh, July 27, 2025 -- Cambodia has firmly rejected the baseless accusation by Thai forces claiming that Cambodia attacked the Tamone Temple complex.
Speaking at a press briefing at 11:00 a.m., Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, Spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defence, stated that the Tamone Temple complex is part of Cambodia’s cultural heritage, built by Khmer ancestors and situated well within Cambodian territory as defined by internationally recognised maps.
“The temple is located in Oddar Meanchey province, under Cambodian sovereignty. There is absolutely no reason for Cambodia to attack or destroy its own property—such intent exists only on the Thai side,” she emphasised.
