Cambodia Suggests the Establishment of AMS Regional Working Group on Information Integrity
AKP Phnom Penh, July 23, 2025 --
Cambodia has proposed the creation of an AMS Regional Working Group on Information Integrity, tasked with developing guidelines, fostering cooperation, and preparing a collective roadmap to be reviewed at the 21st Asia Media Summit.
“This mechanism would ensure our commitments become action, and our action becomes impact,” underlined Cambodian Minister of Information H.E. Neth Pheaktra at the conclusion of the 20th Asia Media Summit in Siem Reap province this afternoon.
“Let us build regional fact-checking alliances. Let us promote cross-border capacity building. Let us speak with one united voice against the manipulation of truth. And let us ensure that our citizens—no matter where they live—can rely on the media to inform, not to mislead,” he added.
H.E. Neth Pheaktra stated that this year, one message rang out clearly from the conversations: fake news is not just a nuisance—it is a danger. A danger to social cohesion, public health, peace, stability and democratic processes. “And because this challenge knows no borders, our solution must also be borderless—built upon solidarity, coordination, and collective action,” he said.
H.E. Minister also shared Cambodia’s strong commitment to this effort by launching in April this year, the national campaign “Say No to Fake News,” a multi-stakeholder initiative aimed at educating the public, training media professionals, empowering youth, and enhancing the credibility of information.
“We believe this model can be adapted, shared, and strengthened across the AMS region, and we stand ready to work hand-in-hand with our fellow member states to promote regional cooperation in this regard,” he emphasised.
The 21st Asia Media Summit will be hosted by the Republic of Maldives in 2026.
