ANA is Restoring Pillars at Bakan Tower, Angkor Wat
AKP Phnom Penh, June 06, 2025 --
The APSARA National Authority (ANA) is actively engaged in the restoration of the pillars at Bakan Tower, Angkor Wat Temple, addressing concerns of decay affecting these historical structures.
According to the authority’s news release on Thursday, the restoration team, part of the Department of Conservation of Monuments and Preventive Archaeology, has identified that all ten pillars require significant attention due to deterioration.
Mr. Soy Sophearin, a Technical Officer for Stone Conservation, highlighted that the decay is attributed to both natural elements and bat urine, which have gradually eroded the stone over time.
The restoration project commenced in February 2025, and progress has been notable, with nine out of the ten pillars successfully restored, marking approximately 80 percent completion of the project.
