Cambodia will host the Cambodia–Thailand Joint Border Commission (JBC) Meeting on June 14 in Phnom Penh, confirmed H.E. Chum Sounry, Secretary of State and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, this morning.
He recalled that at a bilateral meeting in Tokyo on May 30, 2025, the Foreign Ministers of both countries agreed to uphold the spirit of the Memorandum of Understanding between Cambodia and Thailand on the Survey and Demarcation of Land Boundary (MoU 2000), and to utilise all existing mechanisms—especially encouraging the JBC mechanism to meet as soon as possible in order to resolve the border issues, focusing on area where the recent incident occurred.
In this spirit, he continued, Cambodia has agreed to host the upcoming JBC meeting and has formally informed the Thai side of this arrangement.
He further reaffirmed Cambodia’s firm determination to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity, while also emphasising its commitment to transforming border areas with neighbouring countries into zones of peace, friendship, cooperation, and development for the benefit of the respective countries and peoples.
Cambodia is committed to resolving border issues peacefully, through technical mechanisms and in accordance with international law, the spokesperson stressed.
