AKP Phnom Penh, April 24, 2026 --
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Civil Service H.E. Hun Many on Thursday presented donations to over 700 sanitation workers and community security guards in recognition of their efforts during the recent "Nokor Sankranta 2026" festivities in the capital.
The appreciation ceremony, held at Phnom Penh City Hall, was presided over by H.E. Hun Many, who also serves as President of the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC), alongside Phnom Penh Governor H.E. Khuong Sreng.
A total of 706 personnel from both the public and private sectors received care packages consisting of 25kg of rice, canned goods, beverages, and a cash allowance of 50,000 Riel roughly (US$12.5). The donations were provided through the patronage of Acting Head of State Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Cambodian Red Cross President Samdech Kittiprittpundit Bun Rany Hun Sen, Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet and the First Lady Lok Chumteav Dr. Pich Chanmony.
During the event, Governor Khuong Sreng highlighted the unprecedented success of the six-day festival, which ran from April 14 to 19. The event drew an estimated 6.67 million national and international visitors, ranking Phnom Penh as the top destination for the New Year celebrations.
"This success was made possible through the dedication of our authorities and security forces, particularly the sanitation staff and community guards who worked tirelessly on the ground to maintain a clean and beautiful environment for all visitors," the Governor stated.
Deputy Prime Minister Hun Many expressed profound gratitude to the workers for their personal sacrifices during the holiday period. He noted that their commitment allowed millions of families to enjoy the festivities safely and in a hygienic setting.
He further emphasised that while the nation celebrated the New Year under the umbrella of peace, the Royal Government remains mindful of broader society – including front-line personnel and the vulnerable – ensuring the spirit of the Sankranta festival reaches all levels of society.
The ceremony concluded with a tribute to the Phnom Penh Municipal Unity Command for maintaining public order and safety throughout the event, which concluded without any major incidents.
