AKP Phnom Penh, January 05, 2026 -- Cambodia has once again requested, through a Note Verbale dated Jan. 5, 2026, to convene a special meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) in the second or third week of January 2026 in Siem Reap province.

According to a press release issued this evening by the State Secretariat of Border Affairs (SSBA), the request was made after the Thai side asked to postpone a meeting previously proposed by the Cambodian JBC for the first week of January, citing the reason of waiting for internal procedures.

The proposed agenda items for the upcoming special JBC meeting include the following:

1. To discuss the survey and demarcation works, as well as address the issue that Thai military forces have been conducting activities violating Cambodia's territorial integrity and sovereignty by laying barbed wire, placing containers, planting Thai flags, building trenches, clearing and destroying the homes and property of Cambodian citizens, and prohibiting Cambodian citizens from returning to live in their homes.

2. To resume the work progress of survey and the emplacement of temporary markers on the terrain in the segment between Boundary Pillars No. 42-47, located in the areas of Chouk Chey village and Prey Chan village. O’Beichoan commune, O’Chrov district, Banteay Meanchey province, and in the segment between Boundary Pillars No. 52-59, located in Boeung Reang Commune and Kamrieng commune, Kamrieng district, Battambang province.

3. To discuss on the survey and the emplacement of temporary markers on the terrain in the segments between Boundary Pillars No. 33-37 (Boeung Trakuon area), Thmar Da International Point of Entry (Thmar Da commune, Veal Veng district, Pursat province), the O’Phluk Damrei border area (Thmar Da commune, Veal Veng district, Pursat province), the Chor 1 border area (Thmar Da commune. Veal Veng district, Pursat province), and other border areas.

4. To dispatch Joint Survey Teams to carry out survey and demarcation works on the terrain in the segment between the agreed exact locations of the Boundary Pillars (the stream and straight boundary line), in accordance with the spirit of the Agreed Minutes of the 6th Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand Joint Commission on Demarcation for Land Boundary (JBC) dated June 15, 2025 in Phnom Penh.

The SSBA took the opportunity to reaffirm that the Cambodian JBC firmly upholds its position in safeguarding the Cambodia-Thailand International Boundary as inherited from the Commissions of Delimitation of the Boundary between Indo-China and Siam, in full respect of international law, the principle of intangibility of frontiers (Uti possidetis juris), the Franco-Siamese conventions and treaties, the maps and the procès-verbaux of the Commission of the Abornement of the Boundary between Indo-China and Siam, as well as all relevant agreements and documents mutually agreed upon by both parties. 

In this regard, it continued, the Cambodian JBC will continue to conduct land surveying and boundary demarcation works with the Thai JBC, at the earliest, with a view to achieving lasting peace along the border and will not recognise any alteration of the boundary line resulting from the use of force.

The SSBA also called upon compatriots and the general public to place their full trust and confidence in the Royal Government of Cambodia and the Cambodian JBC, which steadfastly uphold the highest standards of professionalism and responsibility, and consistently place the supreme national interest at the forefront, particularly with regard to the safeguarding of territorial integrity and national sovereignty.
