Thai Heavy Shelling into Civilian Areas Reported in Battambang’s Sampov Loun District

Border tensions escalated further this afternoon as Thai military forces reportedly fired more than 40 artillery shells into a civilian-populated area in Battambang province, the Ministry of National Defence reported.
The shelling occurred at approximately 2:42 p.m., targeting the areas where civilians are currently residing in Ta Sda commune, Sampov Loun district, it stated.
The incident was described as an indiscriminate and aggressive attack by Thai forces, constituting a serious violation of international humanitarian law, said the Ministry.
According to the source, Cambodian forces remain on high alert and continue to closely monitor developments along the border. They are maintaining a firm, vigilant, and resolute posture while carrying out their duties to defend Cambodia’s territorial integrity and national dignity with determination and courage.
