Firefly Inaugurates Direct Service Connecting Kuala Lumpur and Siem Reap
AKP Phnom Penh, November 27, 2025 --
Firefly Airlines successfully launched its new direct route between Kuala Lumpur and Siem Reap on Thursday, with the inaugural flight landing safely at the new Siem Reap Angkor International Airport (SAI).
The service establishes a crucial new air link between Malaysia and Cambodia's main cultural and tourism hub.
The maiden flight arrived with 157 passengers onboard. The return leg to Kuala Lumpur saw 128 travellers depart Siem Reap.
Firefly will operate the route three times weekly – on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays – utilising its Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
The arriving passengers and crew were warmly welcomed by Siem Reap Provincial Department of Tourism Director Mr. Thim Sereyvuth and officials from the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation.
Passengers on the inaugural flight expressed satisfaction with their journey and praised the modern, attractive design of the new Siem Reap Angkor International Airport. Many shared that visiting the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Angkor Wat was a long-held personal dream.
Furthermore, travellers voiced strong confidence in the safety and security of their stay in Siem Reap province. They reported being unconcerned by regional border tension reports, with several promising to actively recommend Siem Reap’s attractions to family and friends upon returning home.
The launch comes as the new international airport demonstrates robust growth. According to the Siem Reap provincial administration, as of mid-November, the airport was managing 22 to 23 international flights daily, bringing in an average of 2,000 to 3,000 foreign visitors per day.
