Cambodia and Thailand have agreed to commence the partial removal of heavy and destructive weapons as part of the first phase of their disarmament plan, in a symbolic demonstration observed by the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT).

The update was shared by H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, Spokeswoman of the Cambodian Ministry of National Defence.

Following the signing of the Joint Declaration on Oct. 26, 2025, both sides initiated the first phase of the planned removal at 9:00 p.m., as a symbol of their strong commitment to implementing the Joint Declaration between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Kingdom of Thailand, signed in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, under the witness of U.S. President Donald J. Trump and Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“Cambodia sincerely hopes that this positive step will contribute to the joint efforts of both countries in promoting peace, stability, and a swift return to normalcy,” she stated.

H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata also reaffirmed Cambodia’s unwavering commitment to fully and effectively implementing the Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration, and to continuing close cooperation with Thailand for the mutual benefit of both nations and their peoples for generations to come.
