Samdech Techo Hun Sen Sends Congratulatory Messages to Timorese Leaders
AKP Phnom Penh, October 26, 2025 --
Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate of Cambodia, this afternoon sent separated messages to leaders of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, congratulating them on the full accession of their country to ASEAN.
“This great achievement reflects the unwavering efforts of Timor-Leste's institutions and people, and the region's shared goal of deeper integration and cooperation,” he stated. “Timor-Leste's journey, from its in-principle admission at the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits in Cambodia in 2022 to this formal accession, stands as a testament to its national resolve and regional solidarity.”
As a longtime friend, he underlined, Cambodia wholeheartedly supports Timor-Leste's membership, which will enrich our collective efforts to foster unity, inclusiveness, and sustainable development throughout the region, especially in face of the increasingly complex challenges of today's global landscape.
In his message to H.E. Ms. Maria Fernanda Lay, President of the National Parliament of Timor-Leste, the Cambodian Senate President said he looked forward to engaging closely with her to further forge the friendship between the two legislative bodies and to advance the mutual interests of the two nations and the common interests of the ASEAN Community.
“We look forward to working closely with Your Excellency and your government to strengthen our bilateral relations and further advance the ASEAN Community in the years ahead,” he wrote to H.E. Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, Prime Minister of Timor-Leste.
