Cambodia Launches Protest over Thai Military Encroachments
AKP Phnom Penh, August 20, 2025 --
The Cambodia Joint Border Committee (JBC) Secretariat, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, on Aug. 19 lodged an official protest against recent actions by Thai armed forces, who laid barbed wire, erected black nets, and placed tires in several locations along the border inside Cambodian territory.
The update was shared this morning by H.E. Nong Sakal, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, during a press briefing in Phnom Penh.
“The Cambodia JBC asks the Thai military to remove the installations from all mentioned locations. Such actions seriously undermine trust,” he said. “Cambodia therefore calls on Thailand to fully respect all bilateral agreements and international obligations.”
The spokesperson reaffirmed Cambodia’s unwavering commitment to the ceasefire agreement jointly reached by both sides. “We believe this agreement is a solid foundation for building lasting peace for all,” he stressed.
