Cambodia Calls on Thailand to Cease Unconstructive Actions Beyond Their Territory
AKP Phnom Penh, August 13, 2025 --
Under Secretary of State and Spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defence H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata has called on Thailand to immediately cease any unconstructive actions beyond its own territory.
“At Chork Chey checkpoint on Aug. 12-13, 2025, Thai paramilitary forces and border police officers inspected areas in front of the checkpoint, set up barbed wire, and placed tires in Chork Chey village, O’ Bei Choan commune, O’ Chrov district, Banteay Meanchey province, within Cambodia’s Military Region 5,” she said at a press briefing this afternoon.
She stressed that Cambodia demands the Thai side immediately and unconditionally halt all actions that violate the ceasefire and the spirit and consensus of the Extraordinary General Border Committee (GBC) Meeting, particularly Points 2 and 4. These provisions stipulate that both sides must maintain troop deployments as they were when the ceasefire took effect at 24:00 hours local time on July 28, 2025, with no further movements — including patrols — toward the other side’s positions.
The agreement also prohibits provocative actions that could escalate tensions, including any military activity entering the other side’s airspace, territory, or positions, as well as the construction or enhancement of military infrastructure or fortifications beyond one’s own side.
Furthermore, Cambodia urged Thailand to respect the 2000 Memorandum of Understanding and strictly comply with Article 5, which requires maintaining the status quo and prohibits all activities that could cause environmental changes in border areas.
