Baray District Governor Praises Farmers for Premium Rice Harvest
AKP Phnom Penh, August 08, 2025 --
Baray District Governor Khorn Chanthay has visited farmers in Baray commune, Baray district, Kampong Thom province, to inspect the harvest of high-demand rice varieties, praising their efforts and promising continued support for agricultural development.
On August 7, Governor Chanthay and his team observed the harvest of Sen Kra’ob fragrant rice and premium Sronge short-term rice. Five local farming households cultivated a combined 92 hectares of these crops.
The governor commended the farmers for their hard work, noting that the two rice varieties are highly sought after by private sector partners in both domestic and international markets. He highlighted the premium prices these varieties purchase, which provide significant economic benefits to the community.
To help farmers expand production, the Baray District Administration is supporting them through the Modern Agricultural Community Mechanism. This initiative provides production capital, technical assistance, and guaranteed market access, fostering collaboration between farmers, the Provincial Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, and local authorities.
Governor Chanthay also encouraged local officials to seek management rights for state-owned irrigation stations. By managing these stations, the community could ensure a stable water supply, lower production costs, and maintain the infrastructure for long-term use.
Concluding his visit, the governor emphasised the importance of building trust with private sector partners based on honesty, solidarity, transparency, and shared benefits. He reaffirmed the district's commitment to promoting sustainable and inclusive agricultural growth.
