President of 13th Meeting of States Parties to the CCM Praises Cambodia's Support to the Humanitarian Principles
AKP Phnom Penh, August 05, 2025 -- H.E. Carlos D. Sorreta, President of the Thirteenth Meeting of States Parties to the Convention on Cluster Munitions (CCM) has lauded Cambodia’s support to the humanitarian principles, and reaffirmed CCM’s commitment to reducing the humanitarian consequences caused by the use of cluster munitions.
In response to a letter of H.E. Dr. Ly Thuch, Senior Minister, First Vice President of the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA), condemning Thailand’s aggression and use of cluster munitions on Cambodian territory, H.E. Dr. Ly Thuch wrote:
“I acknowledge your letter of 28 July 2025 and appreciate your assurance of Cambodia's consistent support to the humanitarian principles enshrined in the Convention on Cluster Munitions (CCM) as well as your country's efforts to clear your territory of these weapons. The armed tensions within Cambodia's and Thailand's border areas are deeply concerning, and ensuring the protection of civilian populations should be of utmost priority.
The Presidency of the 13th Meeting of States Parties to the CCM is committed to preserving the norms and principles of the Convention and contributing to the aim of reducing the humanitarian consequences caused by the use of cluster munitions.
I remain hopeful that through dialogue and mutual understanding, a path forward can be found one that honors the dignity of all people, as well as the established international humanitarian principles, and brings lasting peace and security to your nation and our region.”
