China Reaffirms Support for Cambodia’s Sovereignty, Independence, and Territorial Integrity
AKP Phnom Penh, August 02, 2025 --
China will firmly support Cambodia in choosing a development path suited to its national conditions independently, in safeguarding its national sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, as well as in playing a greater and more positive role in international and regional affairs.
The commitment was reaffirmed by Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia, H.E. Wang Wenbin, who remarked, “The Khmer people are a great nation. No difficulty can stop Cambodia's progress.”
Addressing the ongoing border dispute between Cambodia and Thailand, H.E. Ambassador stated that China will continue to play a constructive role in effective implementation of the ceasefire agreement and in restoring peace and stability along the border at an early date.
Earlier this morning, H.E. Wang Wenbin also announced a humanitarian aid package of US$100,000 to support civilians displaced by the recent armed clashes. The funds will benefit residents currently sheltering at the Phnom Thmar Kambor Pagoda refugee camp in Por Chas village, Beng commune, Banteay Ampil district, Oddar Meanchey province.
Ambassador Wang joined a delegation of foreign ambassadors and representatives from 22 countries and four international organisations, led by H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The delegation conducted a field visit on Aug. 1-2 to areas affected by the border clashes, including displacement camps in Oddar Meanchey and Preah Vihear provinces.
China remains a key partner in Cambodia’s socio-economic development. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on July 19, 1958, and their traditional friendship has been nurtured by generations of leaders from both nations. In 2010, bilateral ties were elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership of Cooperation.
Today, both countries are committed to building an all-weather China–Cambodia community with a shared future in the new era.
