AKP Phnom Penh, August 02, 2025 -- Displaced families in Oddar Meanchey province have started returning to their homes after a recent ceasefire brought an end to armed clashes along the Cambodian-Thai border, provincial authorities confirmed.  

Deputy Governor Mr. Met Meas Pheakdey reported that as of Aug. 1 afternoon, residents who had sought refuge in displacement camps during the conflict have begun reintegrating into their communities across the province. The repatriation follows a five-day border confrontation between Cambodian forces and Thai troops, which concluded with a ceasefire at midnight on July 28.  

"The security situation has stabilised, allowing displaced families to return home gradually," said Mr. Met Meas Pheakdey. "We are closely monitoring the process to ensure a smooth transition."  

The number of active displacement camps has dropped from seven to six, with the remaining facilities still housing 8,675 families—totaling 31,505 individuals. 

Local authorities are coordinating with humanitarian agencies to assist returnees while maintaining vigilance over security developments.
