Government Spokesperson Calls for Preservation of Strong National Unity Amid Surge in Fake News
AKP Phnom Penh, August 02, 2025 --
H.E. Pen Bona, Head of the Royal Government Spokesperson Unit, has called on all Cambodians to remain vigilant against the spread of fake news and not allow it to erode the Kingdom’s strong national unity.
He noted that many fake Facebook accounts are currently being created using Khmer names, even though the users behind them are not Cambodian citizens.
“This is another tactic aimed at pretending to be Khmer by using Khmer names and characters in order to undermine our national unity,” he emphasised during a press briefing at 11:00 a.m.
“Be cautious and don’t fall for such dangerous tricks,” he warned. “During these difficult times, Cambodians both inside the country and abroad must maintain strong unity to protect our sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national dignity. Let’s preserve our great national unity forever.”
Numerous pieces of fake news related to the ongoing Cambodia–Thailand border situation have been circulating widely on social media, posing a risk of escalating tensions.
The public is therefore urged to follow only credible official sources for accurate and comprehensive information.
These sources include the designated units of the Royal Government of Cambodia, the Ministry of National Defence, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Ministry of Information, and other relevant institutions, as well as official messages from Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate, and Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia.
