CMAC Director General Accuses Thai Forces of Using U.S.-Made Fighter Jets and Bombs Against Preah Vihear Temple
AKP Phnom Penh, July 26, 2025 -- Thai invading forces have reportedly used U.S.-made F-16 fighter jets and MK-82 bombs in their attacks targeting the Temple of Preah Vihear, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, said H.E. Heng Ratana, Director General of the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC).
“Siam (Thailand) can be considered one of the most deceitful states in the world. Dropping MK-82 bomb on the Preah Vihear Temple—a World Heritage Site—is clear evidence of this aggression, yet it continues to mislead the United Nations by claiming the bomb was dropped two kilometres away from the temple,” H.E. Heng Ratana stated in a Facebook post this evening. “Does Siam believe the world is blind?”
According to technical data, the MK-82 bomb weighs over 230 kilogrammes. It belongs to a family of general-purpose bombs—including the MK-81, MK-82, MK-83, and MK-84—and is equipped with Israeli-made guidance systems, with a target deviation of only about 10 metres.
“In the past, Cambodia has suffered the impact of more than 3 million bombs of various types,” he recalled.
“The international community must see clearly that Siam intends to destroy this irreplaceable heritage. Their thinking appears to be: if they cannot take the Preah Vihear Temple, they will destroy it,” underlined H.E. Heng Ratana.
