France to Provide Border-related Documents to Cambodia
AKP Phnom Penh, July 10, 2025 --
France has expressed its readiness to assist in resolving the ongoing Cambodia–Thailand border dispute by providing relevant historical documents to Cambodia and other concerned parties.
The commitment was conveyed by outgoing French Ambassador to Cambodia, H.E. Jacques Pellet, during his farewell visit to Senate President Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen at the Senate Palace in Phnom Penh this morning.
H.E. Jacques Pellet also emphasised France’s firm support for the principles of international law and the International Court of Justice (ICJ), noting that Cambodia and France had previously shared common positions, including in the Ukraine case.
During his meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet in Nice in June, French President H.E. Emmanuel Macron similarly expressed this readiness, stating that France would be willing to provide relevant documentation to both Cambodia and Thailand, if needed.
Cambodia was under French protectorate from 1863 to 1953, during which many of the foundational maps and documents regarding its borders were created, which laid the groundwork for the country’s modern territorial boundaries.
