Cambodia Appreciates Religious Tourism Cooperation with India

Minister of Tourism H.E. Huot Hak appreciates religious tourism between Cambodia and India, highlighting welcoming pagodas and Buddhist sacred sites in Cambodia.
H.E. Huot Hak underlined his impression when receiving Venerable Dr. Bhadant Upagupta Mahathero, Acting President of the All India Bhikku Sangha from Bihar of India and his delegation at the ministry on July 2.
Cambodia has a deep reverence for Buddhism recognised as the state religion, with more than 95 percent of the population practicing it, he said.
He added that Buddhism plays a vital role in all sectors of national development, including religious tourism, which offers opportunities for Buddhist pilgrims from around the world to study Dharma, visit sacred sites, and take part in Buddhist ceremonies in accordance with Buddhist teachings.
Meanwhile, continued the Minister, the Royal Government of Cambodia is open to the practice of other religions and faiths and sets out support to ensure religious harmony in the country.
Venerable Dr. Bhadant Upagupta Mahathero thanked the Minister for the warm hospitality for his delegation of 27 Buddhist followers and highlighted that he was impressed by the development of Cambodia and the Buddhist community in the country.
He added that the purpose of the visit was to explore Cambodia’s culture and the practice of Buddhism, especially visiting the renowned Buddhist pilgrimage sites in Siem Reap province.
The two agreed to further strengthen and expand religious tourism cooperation between Cambodia and India to exchange and broaden knowledge and learning, especially among Buddhist followers.
