Cambodia Launches National Water Resources Data Centre Initiative
AKP Phnom Penh, June 06, 2025--
Cambodia's Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology convened a national workshop today to establish a pivotal National Centre for Water Resources Data Management and Information Systems.
Minister Thor Chetha, who also chairs the Cambodia National Mekong Committee and heads the Tonle Sap Authority, presided over the event.
He emphasised the centre's critical role in strengthening Cambodia's capacity to manage water data and deliver reliable meteorological services.
"Establishing this centre is a fundamental step," stated Minister Thor Chetha. "It will significantly enhance our daily weather forecasting, flood and drought risk assessments, and disaster preparedness.
Ultimately, this safeguards lives, property, and the environment while supporting sustainable development."
The workshop, attended by national and international stakeholders, featured the participation of Ms. Jyotsana Varma, Country Director of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Cambodia.
