The Cambodian and Thai armies reached an agreement on four key points during a 45-minute negotiation held this afternoon at the Cambodia-Thailand Border Affairs Liaison Office at the Chong Cham–O’Smach border gate, in an effort to ease recent border tensions.

The Cambodian delegation was led by Gen. Mao Sophan, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) and Commander of the Royal Cambodian Army. The Thai delegation was headed by Gen. Pana Klaewblaudtuk, Commander of the Royal Thai Army.

According to a statement released this evening by the RCAF General Command, both sides agreed to continue resolving the situation through all existing mechanisms, including the Joint Boundary Committee (JBC), the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC), and the 2000 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the Demarcation of the Cambodia-Thailand Land Border so that the common border becomes a border of peace, friendship, cooperation, and development.

The will also maintain the current situation on the ground, exercise restraint, and address any issues through the upcoming JBC meeting, expected to take place within the next two to three weeks, to preserve good bilateral relations.

The Cambodian side request respect for each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and avoid acts of hostility similar to those that occurred on the morning of May 28, 2025.

The Cambodian side emphasised that its troops have been stationed at that point of conflict since before the signing of the 2000 MoU and will not withdraw or disarm.

“Both parties agreed to and accepted the above four points. The negotiations concluded at 4:15 p.m. the same day,” the statement noted.

The talks came in the aftermath of an armed clash early on May 28 in Techo Morokot village, Morokot commune, Choam Ksan district, Preah Vihear province. Thai troops allegedly opened fire on a long-established Cambodian military position, killing one Cambodian soldier.

The Ministry of National Defence reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to resolving disputes through diplomatic and peaceful means, while reiterating its firm stance on defending its territorial integrity.
