Lucrative Cricket and Grasshopper Raising Business in Kampong Thom

The business of raising crickets and grasshoppers of the residents of Kampong Thom province is bettering household income and the local economy.
Mr. Hak Monghuot, Governor of Taing Kork district of Kampong Thom, noticed the improvement following his recent visit to residents in his area who raised crickets and grasshoppers.
Ms. Chhoam Sreyrath, a farmer in Chan village, Chraneang commune, Taing Kork district, proved the cost-efficient approach in raising the edible insects and the income she can make out of it.
She said that crickets were sold between 10,000 Riel (4,000 Riel equal to US$1) and 12,000 Riel per kilogramme, while the market price of grasshoppers is between 30,000 Riel and 35,000 Riel per kilogramme.
With that, she can earn at least 1,000,000 Riel to over 1,200,000 Riel a month.
Mr. Hak Monghuot encouraged his residents to continue and expand their lucrative cricket and grasshopper raising business to meet market demand and improve their livelihoods.
He also advised his line authorities to monitor cricket and grasshopper farming to ensure that it can be run smoothly and to find solutions when it faces challenges.
