Senate President Praises Vital Role of SMEs in Cambodian Economy

President of the Senate Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has lauded the critical role that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) play in Cambodia’s economy, and urged them to continue aligning their operations with national development strategies to promote sustained economic growth and improved livelihoods for the Cambodian people.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen made the remarks while receiving a courtesy call from a delegation of the Samdech Techo Foundation for the Development of SMEs in Cambodia, led by Oknha Te Taing Por, Chairman of the Foundation’s Board of Directors, at the January 7 Palace in Phnom Penh this morning, according to Senate Spokesperson H.E. Chea Thirith.
During the meeting, Samdech Techo expressed deep appreciation for the Foundation’s active involvement in Cambodia’s socio-economic development. He emphasised that peace, political stability, and macroeconomic stability are essential foundations for growth in all sectors, especially among SMEs.
The Senate President reiterated the Royal Government of Cambodia’s strong commitment to public-private partnerships as a driver of economic progress and enhanced quality of life for all Cambodians.
Highlighting the significant contribution of SMEs to the national economy, Samdech Techo Hun Sen noted that SMEs represent over 98 percent of all business entities in the country, and provide employment to some 70 percent of the country’s total labour force.
For his part, Oknha Te Taing Por shared the Foundation’s ongoing efforts to support SME development, including participation in national events such as the Sea Festival and River Festival, which promote local products and increase market access.
He also outlined the Foundation’s initiatives across 20 provinces and cities, including training programmes aimed at improving SMEs’ capabilities in human resource management, business operations, and access to financing for business expansion.
