PM Urges Public to Trust Cambodian Justice System
AKP Phnom Penh, May 17, 2025 --
Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has called on the public to remain calm and place their trust in the Cambodian justice system, particularly in the wake of a recent fatal traffic accident.
“Please trust the Cambodian justice system. A car accident caused by drunk driving that results in death cannot simply be resolved with compensation. We all follow the same principles: compensation must be paid, and legal action must be taken,” the Premier affirmed.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet made the remarks this morning while presiding over the inauguration ceremony of a newly constructed three-storey school building with 18 classrooms and other related facilities at Hun Sen Pramoy High School, located in Pramoy village, Pramoy commune, Veal Veng district, Pursat province.
The Prime Minister’s comments came in response to a tragic incident on May 15 near the Ministry of Interior, in which a police officer, reportedly driving under the influence of alcohol, was involved in a car accident that killed a three-wheeled vehicle driver and injured several others.
“Driving under the influence of alcohol and causing a fatal accident will be punished without exception — regardless of who the person is. It cannot be settled by simply paying money. We apply the same legal standards to everyone: the case must be filed and sent to court within 48 hours,” he underlined.
Samdech Thipadei also pledged to personally monitor the legal proceedings related to the incident to ensure the proper application of the law.
