H.E. Hem Vanndy Leads Push for SME Data Integration News and Events
AKP Phnom Penh, May 14, 2025 —
Minister of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation H.E. Hem Vanndy on May 13 chaired an inter-ministerial meeting to accelerate efforts in synchronising Cambodia’s SME data, a move aimed at improving policy formulation and service delivery for small and medium enterprises.
According to the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation (MISTI), the meeting addressed longstanding challenges caused by scattered SME data, which are currently managed separately by sectoral ministries-institutions, resulting in a lack of consistent and up-to-date data that gives a comprehensive SME landscape nationwide.
"Now that registration can be done online using digital platforms like CamDX, data sharing should not be an issue," said Minister Vanndy.
He emphasised the government's commitment to developing an integrated registration and data-sharing strategy that allows SME data to flow among ministries-institutions, while also feeding back into government planning systems.
The meeting also agreed on a common definition of SMEs, a step that will make it consisitent across government’s ministries-institutions for SME registration.
“For the SME sector to prosper, it is essential to synchronise data collection and management efforts, ensuring that the information accurately reflects active enterprises at both national and sub-national levels,” H.E. Minister stated, urging ministries-institutions to collaborate fully.
MISTI was tasked with coordinating nationwide SME data (Indicator 30) within the monitoring and evaluation framework for the implementation of the Pentagonal Strategy - Phase 1.
