Joint Senate, National Assembly Congress Planned for June
AKP Phnom Penh, May 09, 2025 --
The Senate and National Assembly of Cambodia plan to hold a joint congress in June to showcase the milestones and achievements attained by the Royal Government of Cambodia in the past two years.
The scheduled organisation of the Senate and National Assembly’s congress follows a recent request by Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet.
The platform demonstrates the democratic process and the highest responsibility of the government to Cambodian people, who overwhelmingly elected the 7th legislature on July 23, 2023.
The 7th-mandate Royal Government was formed following the free, fair, and non-violent election with the participation of 18 political parties and 84.59 percent of eligible voters casting their ballots.
The ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP) received a landslide victory with about 82 percent of the votes (securing 120 parliamentary seats), while the remaining votes (5 seats) were earned by the FUNCINPEC Party.
According to Cambodian law, a congress by the Senate and the National Assembly is convened when necessary or to resolve national issues, including those related to independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
