School Food Safety Campaign Launched to Promote Child Health and Iron Nutrition in Cambodia
AKP Phnom Penh, May 07, 2025 --
The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, in collaboration with Danone Southeast Asia, officially launched the “School Food Safety Campaign” today under the theme “Child Health and Iron”.
The campaign was inaugurated by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron.
The joint initiative aims to address iron deficiency among children and promote safe food practices in schools across Cambodia. The campaign will raise awareness about nutritional safety and encourage the adoption of healthy eating habits in educational institutions nationwide.
Speaking at the launching event, H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron expressed his deep appreciation for Danone Cambodia’s commitment to improving the health and well-being of Cambodian children and students. He emphasised that the campaign will offer educational outreach to school management teams, teachers, parents, students, and the broader public. The initiative will focus on fostering daily consumption habits of the three food groups—energy-giving, body-building, and protective foods—while promoting reduced intake of fat, salt, and sugar, and increasing foods rich in iron and vitamin C, while discouraging sugary drinks.
H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron expressed confidence that this campaign would serve as a vital platform to enhance students’ understanding of food safety, which he described as a long-term investment in human resource development.
He noted that the programme plays a critical role in advancing child health and nutrition, combating malnutrition and anemia, and supporting physical growth. Ultimately, the campaign aims to build a healthier, better-educated, and more resilient future generation, contributing to Cambodia’s sustainable socio-economic development.
