New Mekong River Bridge in Kratie Set for Temporary Opening This September
AKP Phnom Penh, May 07, 2025 --
Barring any changes, the Chinese-funded bridge across the Mekong River in Kratie province is expected to open for temporary use this September, according to H.E. Phan Rim, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT).
As of early May, the project is approximately 94.1 percent complete, the spokesperson pointed out.
The over US$100 millilon bridge, linking Talus village of Chetr Borei district’s Bos Leav commune to Prek Prasop district’s Thmar Reap village, is part of a project which also includes two medium bridges, a short bridge, and a road connecting NR7 to NR60B.
The main bridge spans 1,761 metres in length and 13.5 metres in width, while the entire project features 31.69 kilometres of connecting roads. Construction is being carried out by the Shanghai Construction Group.
The 7th-mandate Royal Government of Cambodia has reaffirmed its commitment to investing in strategic infrastructure, including ports, airports, bridges and roadway systems to enhance national connectivity and economic growth.
