MISTI Minister Highlights Crucial Role of Science Diplomacy in a Changing World

H.E. Hem Vanndy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation, presided over the opening of a workshop on “Science Diplomacy in a Changing World,” organised by the National Institute of Science, Technology and Innovation (NISTI), in collaboration with CamTech University and the AI Forum.
The workshop brought together policymakers, academics, and industry experts to discuss how science diplomacy can foster international cooperation, address global crises, and promote equitable access to emerging technologies, said the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation (MISTI) in a news release this evening.
The event highlighted the importance of linking research to policy and strengthening cross-border scientific collaboration, it added.
“Science diplomacy plays a vital role in enabling the advancement of global scientific progress by facilitating the sharing of knowledge, resources and infrastructure — serving as a catalyst for addressing global issues and fostering technological innovation,” said H.E. Hem Vanndy.
The workshop featured a keynote address by Mr. Sardar Umar Alam, UNESCO Country Representative to Cambodia, on the role of science in informing foreign policy.
H.E. Sok Siphana, Senior Minister in charge of Special Missions, also led a panel discussion on science for diplomacy, focusing on international cooperation and emerging technologies.
