Thailand to Import More Cassava and Corn from Cambodia
AKP Phnom Penh, April 27, 2025 --
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the purchase of agricultural products has been signed between Thailand’s Koson Group and the Cassava Federation of Cambodia.
The signing ceremony took place earlier this week in Thailand, with representatives from both parties in attendance, in the presence of H.E. Reach Ra, Secretary of State at Cambodia’s Ministry of Commerce.
Under the agreement, Koson Group will purchase 300,000 tonnes of cassava and 100,000 tonnes of red corn per year from Cambodia through the federation.
From April 22-25, H.E. Reach Ra led a Cambodian delegation — including Cassava Federation President Oknha Chray Son — to a meeting with the Federation of Thai Industries.
The meeting brought together 12 Cambodian delegates, including the deputy director-general of Trade Promotion, representatives from the Department of Trade Policy, the commercial attaché to the Royal Embassy of Cambodia in Thailand, and 32 officials from various Thai ministries and institutions.
During the discussions, the Cambodian delegation and Thai industry representatives explored challenges and solutions related to market access and the supply chain for processed products, focusing on cassava, corn, soybeans, raw materials for animal feed, trade facilitation, and logistics.
The Cambodian delegation also visited cassava and palm oil processing factories, cosmetics manufacturers, and fertiliser factories in Thailand to explore potential market opportunities for supplying Cambodian raw materials for processing into finished products.
