Over 50 percent of Accommodations Booked in Kep Ahead of Khmer New Year, No Price Hikes Encouraged
AKK Kep, April 11, 2025 --
As Cambodia prepares to celebrate the traditional Khmer New Year holiday, over 50 percent of accommodations in Kep province have already been booked as of April 11, 2025.
Out of a total of 1,700 available rooms, more than half are reserved, while authorities have discouraged tourism service providers from raising prices during the festive period.
Mr. Pok Teang, Acting Director of the Kep Provincial Tourism Department, confirmed this morning that the department does not encourage businesses in the tourism sector—including hotels and restaurants—to increase prices during the holiday. However, he acknowledged that slight price adjustments might occur due to higher demand.
To ensure quality service, the department has held meetings with local business owners, including those operating along Kep’s beaches and other tourist sites, to provide guidelines on hospitality standards, fair pricing, and proper conduct. The aim is to maintain Kep’s reputation as a high-potential tourism destination.
Mr. Eung Srengpheng, owner of Chan Vanna Guesthouse and a seaside restaurant in Kep, stated that his restaurant will not raise food prices during the holiday, offering over 60 dishes at regular prices ranging from 10,000 to 60,000 riel (approximately US$2.50 to US$15) depending on the dish. However, some guesthouses may implement minor seasonal price adjustments.
Authorities and business owners alike urge customers and vendors to agree on prices beforehand to avoid disputes. In case of any issues, tourists are advised to immediately contact local authorities rather than posting complaints on social media.
As the holiday approaches, Kep remains a key destination for both local and international visitors, with officials working to balance demand and fair service practices.
