Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia, led a delegation to the Lao Embassy in Phnom Penh this morning to pay tribute to the late H.E. General Khamtay Siphandone, former President of Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR).

H.E. General Khamtay Siphandone, father of current Lao Prime Minister H.E. Sonexay Siphandone, passed away in Vientiane on April 2, 2025.

Samdech Khuon Sudary conveyed her deepest condolences to Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, his family, the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, the Lao government, and the Lao people.

She emphasised that H.E. General Khamtay Siphandone's passing represented a significant loss for Lao PDR, highlighting his pivotal role in the nation’s development.

"Cambodia will always remember H.E. General Khamtay Siphandone as a close friend and partner," Samdech Khuon Sudary stated. "His contributions to strengthening the longstanding relationship between our two countries, particularly through the ruling parties, have left an enduring legacy."

She concluded by expressing her prayers for his peaceful repose.
