AKP Phnom Penh, April 03, 2025 --
The Ministry of Information and telecommunications provider Metfone have pledged to strengthen their collaboration to combat the spread of fake news and enhance public information dissemination through modern media channels.
In a meeting between Minister of Information, H.E. Neth Pheaktra, and Mr. Nguyen Hoang Trung, Deputy Director General of Commercial Affairs at Metfone, at the ministry’s office here on April 3 morning, both parties emphasised the importance of ensuring public safety and awareness through accurate and timely information.
H.E. Minister Pheaktra commended Metfone's proactive efforts in distributing anti-fake news messages to its mobile network users and acknowledged the company's significant contribution to Cambodia's economic development through its reliable mobile and internet services.
"Metfone's swift and high-quality dissemination of information has been invaluable," stated H.E. Neth Pheaktra. He also expressed gratitude for Metfone's integration of national television channels and the Ministry of Information’s application into its Over-The-Top (OTT) TV broadcasting system, which he noted has broadened public access to essential news and reinforced citizens' right to information.
The minister further recognised Metfone's provision of free internet services to the National Television of Cambodia (TVK) for live broadcasts of key national events and leadership activities, as well as their support in establishing internet connectivity at the Community Computer Centre in Koh Sotin district, Kampong Cham province. This centre, equipped with computers donated through the Mekong-Ganga Cooperation initiative, aims to enhance digital literacy and community development.

"We remain dedicated to delivering high-quality telecommunications services and diverse entertainment content to our customers across the country," Mr. Nguyen Hoang Trung stated.
The partnership underscores the Royal Government's focus on leveraging technology to combat misinformation and promote accurate, accessible information for its citizens.
