MoE and CI Conduct a field Visit to Central Cardamom REDD+ Project
AKP Phnom Penh, February 25, 2025 --
Cambodia’s Ministry of Environment (MoE) in collaboration with the Conservation International Cambodia (CI Cambodia) conducted a field visit to Central Cardamom REDD+ Project in Thmar Bang district, Koh Kong province to monitor the work progress and learn more about the needs for more effective and sustainable implementation of the Central Cardamom REDD+ Project.
The field visit was let by H.E. Dr. Chuop Paris, Cambodian Secretary of State at the Ministry of Environment and REDD+ Taskforce Focal Person, high ranking representatives of the Ministry of Environment, deputy provincial governor of Koh Kong, officials from Provincial Department of Environment, rangers, Village REDD+ Focal Points, and CI staff with a total of 39 participants (5 women and 5 indigenous people).
According to the Ministry of Environment, the visit covered four main target areas including the CI Thmar Bang office, the community implementing the sustainable livelihood programme, including chicken group and lemongrass essential oil groups, community engagement and benefit sharing group, and the Thmar Bang ranger station in Koh Kong province.
After the visit, participants learned about the CC REDD+ project overview, sustainable livelihood activities, get to meet with Village REDD+ Focal Points to discuss about community benefit sharing mechanism, and get to meet with rangers to learn more about law enforcement activities in the protected areas of the Cardamom Mountains National Park.
Central Cardamom Mountains National Park and Central Cardamom REDD+ Project were launched in 2022 through long-term sustainable financing with the aim of benefiting the management of the landscape area and improving the livelihoods of the communities in and around the area.
